Performance of Classic Irish Myth Oisin in Tir na n-Og

March 21, 2021 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Free

Join storyteller Hannah Sloat and harpist Alyssa Reit as they share the classic Irish myth Oisin in Tir na n-Og. The presentation is accompanied by an extensive musical score on lever harp, which highlights and illuminates the characters, events, and ideas in the tale.

Tir na n-Og (“Land of the Ever Young” ) is described as a magical place of eternal youth, beauty, health and joy. The hero, Oisin, travels there for love of Niamh, the Princess of Tir na n’Og, with whom he spends a blissful sojourn in that paradise. But everything changes when he begins to long to return to his homeland to see his father and companions once more. Except for three short illustrations of the “Three Noble Strains” of music, all music is original, composed by Alyssa Reit. Script is by Una McGillicuddy, with Alyssa Reit.
