The Legacy of Women of Color Quilters
No artistic form is more closely associated with African American culture than quilt making, representing skill, aesthetic beauty, and utilitarian need. For African Americans the quilt became a covert expression of resistance within the context of storytelling. Join us for this enlightening presentation by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, founder of the Women of Color Quilters Network and National Endowment of Arts Bess Lomax Hawes National Heritage Fellow who also dedicates time and energy to passing on the history contained in the quilts to younger generations. From improvisation to art quilts, we’ll learn all about the historical and cultural significance of quilts made in the African American community.
