  • Champion of Service: Celebrating Muhammad Ali

    ‘Champion of Service: Celebrating Muhammad Ali’ will feature reflections from individuals close to the late world heavyweight champion and an opportunity for viewers across the country to participate in The Greatest Give Back.

    Registration is not required to view this program on Facebook Live.

    Although Muhammad Ali is universally revered as he Greatest of All Time (or G.O.A.T.) for his exploits in the boxing ring, he also became a champion of humanity through his commitment to service outside the ring.

    The full life and legacy of this global icon will be celebrated in a national virtual event at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, on the PBS Books Facebook page through the Harrison Library Facebook page.

    Through a partnership led by PBS Books, USA TODAY and the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, the evening’s program will highlight the dedication to courage, generosity, kindness and compassion embodied by Muhammad Ali in recognition of his 80th birthday. Additional partners include the Louisville Courier Journal, Metro Louisville United Way, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) and Kentucky Educational Television (KET).

  • Neuberger Museum of Art Virtual Tour

    Virtual Presentation

    Join us for a virtual tour of the Neuberger Museum of Art from the comfort of your home. We will be learning about the museum's permanent collection and will be able to ask questions after the presentation.

    The Neuberger Museum of Art is located in Purchase and is affiliated with SUNY Purchase College. It is the nation's tenth-largest university museum and one of 14 sites on the African American Heritage Trail of Westchester County. The museum is located at 735 Anderson Hill Rd, Purchase, NY 10577.

  • Scenes of New York City: Virtual Talk with Artist Don Sexton

    Virtual Presentation

    Artist Don Sexton will be discussing his paintings of iconic scenes of New York City, which are featured in the Harrison Library's virtual exhibition of his works during the month of June.

    Don lives in TriBeCa in New York City. His studio is in Goshen, Connecticut He has studied painting, drawing, printmaking, and etching at Wesleyan University and at the New School and the Stacy Studio Workshop in New York City and at the American Center for the Arts in Paris. His paintings have been exhibited in numerous shows in New York and Connecticut, have received several awards, and are in collections in the United States, Europe, and Australia. He is frequently engaged for commission projects.

    His works are mixed media: ink and oil pastel on paper. He has developed a unique technique that begins by sketching the subject with black ink. Oil pastels provide color. Finally, water-based inks are applied and they bring out the rich and vivid hues in the work. He received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in mathematics and studio arts. He also has a Masters and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. For fifty years he was a full-time faculty member at Columbia University’s Business School (and is now retired). He has traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Latin America.

    THE DIVAS by Jack Neary is a funny and quirky show about the dysfunctional relationship of two veteran actresses for whom the show must go on even if it's over the dead body of the other.
